Translation
One day, five or six nights before the completion of the year, Kṛṣṇa, tending the calves, entered the forest along with Balarāma.

Purport
Up to this time, even Balarāma was captivated by the bewilderment that covered Brahmā. Even Balarāma did not know that all the calves and cowherd boys were expansions of Kṛṣṇa or that He Himself was also an expansion of Kṛṣṇa. This was disclosed to Balarāma just five or six days before the completion of the year.

This verse shows that in this pastime even Baladeva became bewildered. It happened five or six nights before the completion of one year (hayana puranisu panca-sasu tri yamasu. Three yamas equal one night).

And indefinite number “five or six days” is mentioned because Śukadeva was bewildered by prema. Rāma means “he who gives pleasure to Kṛṣṇa and the other boys.” Though Kṛṣṇa usually went to the forest with Balarāma, by going with him on this occasion Kṛṣṇa had a specific purpose. Out of great affection Kṛṣṇa wanted to enlighten him about the truth of the pastime. Otherwise when Brahmā came after a year, by hiding the truth from Balarāma, he could not experience complete joy. The reason for Balarāma not understanding previously is mentioned. Kṛṣṇa, without being born (ajaḥ) to them, had become the sons of all the gopīs. But now he would reveal the truth. That meaning is suggested.

Rāmaḥ means he who gives pleasure to Kṛṣṇa and others. Though Kṛṣṇa usually went to the forest with Balarāma, by going with him on this occasion Kṛṣṇa had a specific purpose. Out of great affection Kṛṣṇa wanted to enlighten him about the truth about his disguised forms. Otherwise when Brahmā came after a year, by hiding the truth from Balarāma, he could not experience complete joy. Or in orderr to hide truth for a year, generally he did not take Balarāma.
They entered thick forest near Govardhana. He was not born from a womb but simply manifested himself in this world (ajaḥ). But though he did come from a womb, he was a son. Or ajaḥ can mean “he does not clearly manifest himself.” He coveres himself by his pastimes.
