ता आहूता भगवता मेघगम्भीरया गिरा । स्वनाम्नां निनदं श्रुत्वा प्रतिनेदु: प्रहर्षिता: ॥ ६ ॥

tā āhūtā bhagavatā megha-gambhīrayā girā sva-nāmnāṁ ninadaṁ śrutvā pratineduḥ praharṣitāḥ

Synonyms

tāḥ — they ; āhūtāḥ — called ; bhagavatā — by the Supreme Personality of Godhead ; megha — gambhīrayā — as deep as a cloud ; girā — with His voice ; sva — nāmnām — of their own names ; ninadam — the sound ; śrutvā — hearing ; pratineduḥ — they replied ; praharṣitāḥ — greatly enlivened .

Translation

The Supreme Personality of Godhead called out to the animals in a voice that resounded like a rumbling cloud. Hearing the sound of their own names, the cows were overjoyed and called out to the Lord in reply.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead called out to the animals in a voice that resounded like a rumbling cloud. Hearing the sound of their own names, the cows were overjoyed and called out to the Lord in reply. KB 10.19.6 Then with a resounding voice Kṛṣṇa began to call the cows by their respective names. Upon hearing Kṛṣṇa calling, the cows immediately replied with joy.

This verse describes how Krsna rescued the cows. Seeing each one, he called out their names and they answered by mooing.

What happened when they found the cows is described. The crest jewel of cowherds called the cows to satisfy the cows and the cowherd boys. He called with a voice like rumbling of clouds which was very deep (gambhīrayā). The word gambhīra describes primarily a deep hole in the ground. By analogy, it indicates the deep water in that deep hole, from which the sound rising is deep in tone. The sound of the clouds is similarly deep. The voice of the Lord was similar in tone. He called the cows’ individual names in that deep voice, with a sweet tone (ninadam). Hearing that, the cows were blissfully and made sounds in reply.
