कुशलाचरितेनैषामिह स्वार्थो न विद्यते । विपर्ययेण वानर्थो निरहङ्कारिणां प्रभो ॥ ३२ ॥

Verse text

kuśalācaritenaiṣām iha svārtho na vidyate viparyayeṇa vānartho nirahaṅkāriṇāṁ prabho

Synonyms

kuśala — pious ; ācaritena — by activity ; eṣām — for them ; iha — in this world ; sva — arthaḥ — selfish benefit ; na vidyate — does not accrue ; viparyayeṇa — by the opposite ; vā — or ; anarthaḥ — undesirable reactions ; nirahaṅkāriṇām — who are free from false ego ; prabho — my dear sir .

Translation

My dear Prabhu, when these great persons who are free from false ego act piously in this world, they have no selfish motives to fulfill, and even when they act in apparent contradiction to the laws of piety, they are not subject to sinful reactions.

My dear Prabhu, when these great persons who are free from false ego act piously in this world, they have no selfish motives to fulfill, and even when they act in apparent contradiction to the laws of piety, they are not subject to sinful reactions. KB 10.33.32 Śukadeva Gosvāmī further concludes that the great sages and devotees, who are washed clean of all conditioned life, can move freely even within the contamination of material nature by keeping Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, within their hearts. In this way they also do not become subject to the laws of pleasure and pain in the modes of material nature.

Another version has iha cārtho na vidyate: there is not gain for the self in this world or the next (ca). The word vā indicates the same sentence structure as the previous statement. When they act in a contrary manner still there is no fault (the negative is understood). They are devoid of ahaṅkāra, with no contamination by the act. You are capable of understanding (prabho). Or, you are also in the category of īśvara. O lord (prabho)!
