प्राप्तो नन्दव्रजं श्रीमान् निम्‍लोचति विभावसौ । छन्नयान: प्रविशतां पशूनां खुररेणुभि: ॥ ८ ॥

Verse text

prāpto nanda-vrajaṁ śrīmān nimlocati vibhāvasau channa-yānaḥ praviśatāṁ paśūnāṁ khura-reṇubhiḥ

Synonyms

prāptaḥ — reaching ; nanda — vrajam — the pastures of Nanda Mahārāja ; śrīmān — the fortunate (Uddhava) ; nimlocati — while it was setting ; vibhāvasau — the sun ; channa — invisible ; yānaḥ — whose passing ; praviśatām — who were entering ; paśūnām — of the animals ; khura — of the hooves ; reṇubhiḥ — by the dust .

Translation

The fortunate Uddhava reached Nanda Mahārāja’s pastures just as the sun was setting, and since the returning cows and other animals were raising dust with their hooves, his chariot passed unnoticed.

The fortunate Uddhava reached Nanda Mahārāja's pastures just as the sun was setting, and since the returning cows and other animals were raising dust with their hooves, his chariot passed unnoticed. KB 10.46.8 He approached Vṛndāvana at sunset, when the cows were returning home from the pasturing ground. Uddhava and his chariot were covered by the dust raised by the hooves of the cows.

As the sun was setting (nimlocati), Uddhava entered Vraja, his chariot covered (channa yanah) with dust raised by the hooves of the cows.

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

Six verses describe his arrival in Vraja. Uddhava shone with his beauty and the beauty of the chariot (śrīmān). Another version has śrīman. In that case the word is an address to Parīkṣit. His chariot was hidden by the dust arising from unlimited cows and their mooing as they entered Vraja.

Purport (Sanatana Goswami)

Nanda mean he who gives joy. Gokula was similar. Uddhava was blissful with the great manifestation of bhāva. The chariot, shining with ornaments given by the Lord, was covered with dust raised by hooves of unlimited cows entering Vraja. The cow dust indicates an excellent condition.
