Translation
O Mahārāja Parīkṣit, having thus been received and welcomed by Nanda Mahārāja with honor, Vasudeva sat down very peacefully and inquired about his own two sons because of intense love for them.

Vasudeva was received very warmly and offered a nice place to sit. Anxious about his two sons, who had been put under the protection of Nanda without Nanda’s knowledge, Vasudeva inquired about Them with great anxiety. Both Balarāma and Kṛṣṇa were the sons of Vasudeva. Balarāma was transferred to the womb of Rohiṇī, Vasudeva’s own wife, but Rohiṇī was kept under the protection of Nanda Mahārāja. Kṛṣṇa was personally delivered to Yaśodā and exchanged with her daughter. Nanda Mahārāja knew that Balarāma was the son of Vasudeva, but he did not know that Kṛṣṇa was also Vasudeva’s son. Vasudeva, of course, was aware of this fact and inquired very eagerly about both Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma.

Nanda offered water for washing his feet and other items since Vasudeva had just come from his house. Nanda skillfully (anāymayam) inquired from him and respected him with kind words. Vasudeva then spoke as follows (idam) in the next verse. He had great attachment for his two sons. Though Vasudeva thought of Kṛṣṇa as the Lord, here he shows great affection for him as a son because of the nature of Nanda’s association. All his words in the following verses indicate his attachment to his son. Śukadeva indicates his agreement with this mood by saying to Parīkṣit “O lord of progeny!”

Vasudeva was welcomed by Nanda by washing his feet etc. and asking about his health. Because of attachment he asked about his sons. This was his whole intention in coming and speaking. He did not think of his (sva) sons as the supreme lords, but only as his sons (svātmajayoḥ) and he thought of them equally. Or being attached to his sons who were splendid (su) he inquired. O lord of progeny (viśāmpate)!
