य: प्रार्थ्यते साधुभिरेकचर्यया

rājyānubandhāpagamo yadṛcchayā
yaḥ prārthyate sādhubhir eka-caryayā
vanaṁ vivikṣadbhir akhaṇḍa-bhūmi-paiḥ

Translation
My Lord, I think You have shown me mercy, since my attachment to my kingdom has spontaneously ceased. Such freedom is prayed for by saintly rulers of vast empires who desire to enter the forest for a life of solitude.

“My dear Lord, You are so merciful that in spite of my being reluctant to associate with Your pure devotees, You have shown Your extreme mercy upon me as a result of my slight contact with such a pure devotee as Garga Muni. By Your causeless mercy only have I lost all my material opulences, my kingdom and my family. I do not think I could have gotten rid of all these entanglements without Your causeless mercy. Kings and emperors sometimes accept the life of an ascetic to forget their royal life, but by Your special causeless mercy I have already been bereft of royalty. I do not need to become a mendicant or practice renunciation.
Purport (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)
"That I gave up attachment to kingdom and other things after association with your devotees is your mercy." That is expressed in this verse. Vrtrasura said, " O indra, my master the Lord is the destroy of all attempts at dharma artha and kama for his devotees. By that one can infer his mercy. Such mercy is only available to the selfless devotees of the Lord. It cannot be attained by those attached to material energy." This mercy, destruction of attachment to kingdom, is prayed for attentively, as an uninterrupted meditation on you to perfect devotion, by saintly kings.
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
Starting from association, you have shown me mercy. O Lord, skillful at doing the impossible, like making the mute person eloquent! Attachment to y kingdom has ceased. This is because of your mercy. I think it has been done by you by your free will (yadṛcchayā). This mercy is sought by those fixed only on you, even by rulers of the world, what to speak of rulers of part of Bharata-varṣa. Why do they want to retire to the forest? They have given up thinking of material things by discrimination (sādhubhiḥ).

I think that you have been merciful to me. Why? Without effort, attachment to my kingdom or pursuit of material objects has ceased. You have shown mercy by which attachment has ceased. O Lord, you can do this because you have the power or you have done this because I am not capable of doing it. That mercy is requested by the highest devotees (ekacaryayā), even having a wealth of enjoyment (akhaṇḍa-bhūmi-paiḥ), though this usually disqualifies one for higher intelligence. Or that mercy is requested by the highest devotees even if they own the whole world, what to speak of owning a part of it. Why do they desire the forest? They are devotees (sādhubhiḥ).
