यतस्त्वमागतो दुर्गं निस्तीर्येह यदिच्छया । सर्वं नो ब्रूह्यगुह्यं चेत् किं कार्यं करवाम ते ॥ ३५ ॥

Verse text

yatas tvam āgato durgaṁ nistīryeha yad-icchayā sarvaṁ no brūhy aguhyaṁ cet kiṁ kāryaṁ karavāma te

Synonyms

yataḥ from which place ; tvam you ; āgataḥ have come ; durgam the impassable sea ; nistīrya crossing ; iha here ; yat with what ; icchayā desire ; sarvam everything ; naḥ to Us ; brūhi please tell ; aguhyam not secret ; cet if ; kim what ; kāryam work ; karavāma may We do ; te for you .

Translation

Whence have you come, crossing the impassable sea, and for what purpose? Explain all this to Us if it is not a secret, and tell Us what We may do for you.

Whence have you come, crossing the impassable sea, and for what purpose? Explain all this to Us if it is not a secret, and tell Us what We may do for you. KB 10.52.35 Of course, Kṛṣṇa could understand that the brāhmaṇa had come with a confidential message; therefore He said, “If you have no objection, I give you liberty to speak about your mission.”

He asks if it is secret out of politeness. Please tell me what I can do for you. Or, what can I do for you? This expresses his affection for the brāhmaṇa.
