Translation (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)

[Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued:] Speaking thus, Māyāvatī gave to the great soul Pradyumna the mystic knowledge called Mahāmāyā, which vanquishes all other deluding spells. KB 10.55.16 Māyāvatī had mystic knowledge of supernatural powers. Supernatural powers are generally known as māyā, and to surpass all such powers there is another supernatural power, called mahā-māyā. Māyāvatī had the knowledge of the mystic power of mahā-māyā, and she delivered to Pradyumna this specific energetic power in order to defeat the mystic powers of the Śambara demon.

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

She spoke to incite passion (pra—bhāsya). The cause of her desire to make him act was that he was a great person (mahātmane) suitable to kill Śambara because of his manifested intelligence and strength, even though he was young. Or he was grave (mahātmane), not revealing his powers.

Purport (Sanatana Goswami)

In this way she spoke with passion to Pradyumna who was very intelligent (mahātmane). He was capable of learning the knowledge. She had more powers than Śambara. Thus her knowledge was called Mahā-māyā. It could destroy all of the illusions known to Śambara. Or he had unrestricted power (mahātmane). She was bewildered by prema (māyāvatī). Though he had all knowledge she gave him knowledge because of her bewilderment in prema.
