मनुजेषु च सा वृष्णीन् शूरमानकदुन्दुभिम् । व्यलिखद् रामकृष्णौ च प्रद्युम्नं वीक्ष्य लज्जिता ॥ १८ ॥ अनिरुद्धं विलिखितं वीक्ष्योषावाङ्‍मुखी ह्रिया । सोऽसावसाविति प्राह स्मयमाना महीपते ॥ १९ ॥

manujeṣu ca sā vṛṣnīn śūram ānakadundubhim vyalikhad rāma-kṛṣṇau ca pradyumnaṁ vīkṣya lajjitā aniruddhaṁ vilikhitaṁ vīkṣyoṣāvāṅ-mukhī hriyā so ’sāv asāv iti prāha smayamānā mahī-pate

Translation

O King, among the humans, Citralekhā drew pictures of the Vṛṣṇis, including Śūrasena, Ānakadundubhi, Balarāma and Kṛṣṇa. When Ūṣā saw the picture of Pradyumna she became bashful, and when she saw Aniruddha’s picture she bent her head down in embarrassment. Smiling, she exclaimed, “He’s the one! It’s Him!”

O King, among the humans, Citralekhā drew pictures of the Vṛṣṇis, including Śūrasena, Ānakadundubhi, Balarāma and Kṛṣṇa. When Ūṣā saw the picture of Pradyumna she became bashful, and when she saw Aniruddha's picture she bent her head down in embarrassment. Smiling, she exclaimed, "He's the one! It's Him!" KB 10.62.18-19 Among the human beings she drew were members of the Vṛṣṇi dynasty, including Vasudeva, the father of Kṛṣṇa; Śūrasena, the grandfather of Kṛṣṇa; Śrī Balarāmajī; Lord Kṛṣṇa; and many others. When Ūṣā saw the picture of Pradyumna, she became a little bashful, but when she saw the picture of Aniruddha, she became so bashful that she immediately lowered her head and smiled, having found the man she was seeking. She identified the picture to Citralekhā as that of the man who had stolen her heart.

Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī gives this further insight: When Ūṣā saw the picture of Pradyumna, she became bashful because she thought, “This is my father-in-law.” Then she saw the picture of her lover, Aniruddha, and cried out in joy.

She particularly drew the Vṛṣṇis among the humans. Ūṣā had described as a human (verse 14). Because she also mentioned that he was dark in complexion, she drew Pradyumna since he was a great possibility among them. Seeing his picture Ūṣā was embarrassed because of her nature. Seeing Aniruddha’s picture, she bowed her head in more intense shame. There are different degrees of embarrassment, involving contraction and expansion of consciousness and eyes. She spoke with choked voice (pra—āha). The skilful drawings of Citralekhā and recognition by Ūṣā are not possible anywhere on earth. You should know this since you are lord of the earth, O Parīkṣit (mahāpate).
