Translation
[Nanda and Yaśodā prayed,] “O descendant of Daśārha, O Lord of the universe, may You and Your younger brother Kṛṣṇa ever protect us.” Saying this, they raised Śrī Balarāma onto their laps, embraced Him and moistened Him with tears from their eyes.

[Nanda and Yaśodā prayed,] "O descendant of Daśārha, O Lord of the universe, may You and Your younger brother Kṛṣṇa ever protect us." Saying this, they raised Śrī Balarāma onto their laps, embraced Him and moistened Him with tears from their eyes.

They addressed Him as Jagadīśvara, or the Lord of the universe who maintains everyone. The reason for this was that Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma maintain all living entities. And yet Nanda and Yaśodā were put into such difficulties on account of Their absence. Feeling like this, they embraced Balarāma and, seating Him on their laps, began their perpetual crying, wetting Balarāma with their tears.

Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī comments on this verse as follows: “Nanda and Yaśodā prayed to Śrī Balarāma, ‘May You, along with Your younger brother, protect us.’ Thus they expressed their respect for the fact that He is the elder brother, and they also showed how much they considered Him their own son.”

"Everywhere we hear that you along with your brother are the lords of the universe. Then why do you not protect your elderly parents?" Saying this first, Nanda and then Yasoda placed him on their lap, kissed him and embraced him with tears in their eyes.

“Protect us for a long time” indicates that they blessed Balarāma with long life and strength. Calling him Lord of the universe is also a blessing. Though they were also Dāśārhas, they describe him as such to indicate him as the son of Vasudeva since he was the chief of the Yadus, distinguishing him from Kauravas and Pāṇḍavas. Though Nanda had more affection for Kṛṣṇa as his own son, he protected Balarāma as his own son also, since he regarded his brother’s son as his own. This showed Nanda’s intense affection for Vasudeva, thinking of Vasudeva as himself. Thus he regarded Balarāma has his own son. By saying “with your younger brother (sānujaḥ)” he indicated again that he regarded Balarāma as his son. He took Balarāma as the main son and Kṛṣṇa as secondary by saying “along with your younger brother.” In saying “please protect us” he indicates without distinction “all of us Yādavas.” Or in embracing him out of longing, at this moment he thought it inappropriate to disregard the others in Dvārakā and to think only of the people of Vraja. Protect the Yādavas and protect us.

“Protect us, all the people of Vraja, for a long time” indicates that they blessed Balarāma with long life and strength. Calling him Lord of the universe is also a blessing. They considered that Kṛṣṇa was not merciful to them since he did not come. Yet they pray to him also. Even though he protected them, without his presence they were unprotected. O descendent of the Yadu dynasty! With resentment and pain they call out to him because he protected the Yadus and gave up the people of Vraja. They moistened him with water from their eyes.
Or “You should have long live with unobstructed strength. O excellent child, you should have sons, and grandsons, wealth and power.” First they gave blessings in affection and then out of misery prayed “Protect us!” O lord of the Yadus (dāśārha)! Though you are occupied with protecting them, as the Lord of the universe, protect us, who reside within the universe.
