अलं यदूनां नरदेवलाञ्छनै- र्दातु: प्रतीपै: फणिनामिवामृतम् । येऽस्मत्प्रसादोपचिता हि यादवा आज्ञापयन्त्यद्य गतत्रपा बत ॥ २७ ॥

alaṁ yadūnāṁ naradeva-lāṣchanair dātuḥ pratīpaiḥ phaṇinām ivāmṛtam ye ’smat-prasādopacitā hi yādavā ājṣāpayanty adya gata-trapā bata

Synonyms

alam — enough ; yadūnām — for the Yadus ; nara — deva — of kings ; lāṣchanaiḥ — with the symbols ; dātuḥ — for the giver ; pratīpaiḥ — adverse ; phaṇinām — for snakes ; iva — just like ; amṛtam — nectar ; ye — who ; asmat — our ; prasāda — by the grace ; upacitāḥ — made prosperous ; hi — indeed ; yādavāḥ — the Yadus ; ājṣāpayanti — are ordering ; adya — now ; gata — trapāḥ — having lost shame ; bata — indeed .

Translation

No longer should the Yadus be allowed to use these royal symbols, which now cause trouble for those who gave them, like milk fed to poisonous snakes. Having prospered by our grace, these Yādavas have now lost all shame and are daring to command us!

We cannot allow them to do any more of these things, nor shall we allow them to use these royal insignias. It would be best to take all these things away; it is improper to feed a snake with milk, since such merciful activities simply increase his venom. The Yadu dynasty is now trying to go against those who have fed them so nicely. Their flourishing condition is due to our gifts and merciful behavior, and still they are so shameless that they are trying to order us. How regrettable are all these activities!

In this verse they state that they should no longer ignore their offenses. "We shall take away their royal symbols. "(alam nara deva lancanaih).

The symbols now act unfavorably for us, the givers. They are like milk given to a serpent. The instrumental case is not used in amṛta for metrical reasons. By our mercy they have prospered. That is well known (hi).

The symbols now act unfavorably for us, the givers, though when excellent things are given, they should give benefit. An example is given to show the unfavorable results. It is like giving milk (amṛtam) to snakes. They became prosperous by our giving, even though they are Yādavas. Previously they did not give orders. Now, they have lost all shame and give orders to persons whom they should not order. Bata expresses lamentation. Thus they speak in this way (ājñātapayanti).
