श्रीशुक उवाच इत्युद्धववचो राजन् सर्वतोभद्रमच्युतम् । देवर्षिर्यदुवृद्धाश्च कृष्णश्च प्रत्यपूजयन् ॥ ११ ॥

Verse text

śrī-śuka uvāca ity uddhava-vaco rājan sarvato-bhadram acyutam devarṣir yadu-vṛddhāś ca kṛṣṇaś ca pratyapūjayan

Synonyms

śrī śukaḥ uvāca — Śukadeva Gosvāmī said ; iti thus stated ; uddhava vacaḥ — the words of Uddhava ; rājan O King (Parīkṣit) ; sarvataḥ in all ways ; bhadram auspicious ; acyutam infallible ; deva ṛṣiḥ — the sage of the demigods, Nārada ; yadu vṛddhāḥ — the Yadu elders ; ca and ; kṛṣṇaḥ Lord Kṛṣṇa ; ca and also ; pratyapūjayan praised it in response .

Translation

Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: O King, Devarṣi Nārada, the Yadu elders and Lord Kṛṣṇa all welcomed Uddhava’s proposal, which was entirely auspicious and infallible.

Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: O King, Devarṣi Nārada, the Yadu elders and Lord Kṛṣṇa all welcomed Uddhava's proposal, which was entirely auspicious and infallible. KB 10.71.11 This advice of Uddhava’s was appreciated by all who were present in the assembly; everyone considered that Lord Kṛṣṇa’s going to Hastināpura would be beneficial from all points of view. The great sage Nārada, the elder personalities of the Yadu dynasty, and the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa Himself, all supported the statement of Uddhava.

Purport

Śrīla Śrīdhara Svāmī explains that the term acyutam indicates that Uddhava’s proposal was “fortified by logical reasoning.” Furthermore, Śukadeva Gosvāmī specifically indicates by the term yadu-vṛddhāḥ that it was the senior members, not the junior ones, who welcomed the proposal. Young princes such as Aniruddha did not like Uddhava’s proposal, since they were eager to fight Jarāsandha’s army immediately.

Narada, Krsna and the elder Yadavas approved of Uddahvas words which were faultess (acyuta) because of conclusive arguments. The elder Yadus approved, but the hint here is that Aniruddha and others younger Yadus, wanting to have war immediately, did not approve.

They responded to his wise words in a similar way (pratyapūjayan). Or they worshipped him at every moment. Respecting him they praised him saying, “Very good! Very good!” Nārada is mentioned first. He agreed, since his plan would be achieved. Kṛṣṇa is mentioned at the end, for whatever Uddhava said he was made to say by Kṛṣṇa. This was Kṛṣṇa’s proposal also. The elders are mentioned because of their importance.

Śukadeva calls out in joy at the agreement with Uddhava’s words. Or Nārada was shining (rājan) with joy. Their worship was a reflection of the actions which Uddhava recommended (pratipūjayan). Or they respected every word of what he said (prati). They uttered praise with affection. This avoids the possibility meaning that others returned a salutation, which is the usual meaning of pratyapūjayan. This showing special mercy to a person.
