śrī-śuka uvāca ity uktvā yajṣiye kāle vavre yuktān sa ṛtvijaḥ kṛṣṇānumoditaḥ pārtho brāhmaṇān brahma-vādinaḥ

Synonyms

Translation

Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Having said this, King Yudhiṣṭhira waited until the proper time for the sacrifice was at hand. Then with Lord Kṛṣṇa’s permission he selected suitable priests, all expert authorities on the Vedas, to execute the sacrifice.

Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Having said this, King Yudhiṣṭhira waited until the proper time for the sacrifice was at hand. Then with Lord Kṛṣṇa's permission he selected suitable priests, all expert authorities on the Vedas, to execute the sacrifice. KB 10.74.6 After satisfying Kṛṣṇa in this way, King Yudhiṣṭhira arranged to perform the Rājasūya sacrifice. He invited all the qualified brāhmaṇas and sages to take part and appointed them to different positions as priests in charge of the sacrificial arena. He invited the most expert brāhmaṇas and sages, whose names are as follows:

The great Bhāgavatam commentator Śrīdhara Svāmī explains that the proper time for the sacrifice mentioned here was the spring.

At the time proper for sacrifice, the beginning of spring time, Yduhisthira with Krsna’s permission appointed suitable brahmanas for the sacrifice.

Determining the auspicious time for the sacrifice, having made his request, he selected priests. Brahma-vādinaḥ means “dedicated to studying the Vedas.”

Purport (Sanatana Goswami)

After praising the Lord and completely other duties, when the proper time arrived for the sacrifice, he selected priests, after gaining permission from Kṛṣṇa who was requested to appear in this world as bhagavān (krṣṇa), in order to please him, and to perfect all actions done, and to increase the enthusiasm of brāhmaṇas, since he was the son of Prthā, a great devotee of Kṛṣṇa. This indicates that Yudhiṣṭhira was knowledgeable and skillful in all actions. Brahma-vādinaḥ means “dedicated to studying the Vedas.”
