हाहेति वादिन: सर्वे मुनय: खिन्नमानसा: । ऊचु: सङ्कर्षणं देवमधर्मस्ते कृत: प्रभो ॥ २९ ॥

hāheti-vādinaḥ sarve munayaḥ khinna-mānasāḥ ūcuḥ saṅkarṣaṇaṁ devam adharmas te kṛtaḥ prabho

Synonyms

hā — “alas, alas” ; iti thus ; vādinaḥ saying ; sarve all ; munayaḥ the sages ; khinna disturbed ; mānasāḥ whose minds ; ūcuḥ they told ; saṅkarṣaṇam Balarāma ; devam the Supreme Lord ; adharmaḥ an irreligious act ; te by You ; kṛtaḥ done ; prabho O master .

Translation

All the sages cried out, “Alas, alas!” in great distress. They told Lord Saṅkarṣaṇa, “O master, You have committed an irreligious act!

All the sages cried out, "Alas, alas !" in great distress. They told Lord Saṅkarṣaṇa, "O master, You have committed an irreligious act! KB 10.78.29 At the death of Romaharṣaṇa Sūta, everyone present became much aggrieved and cried out, “Alas! Alas!” Although all the brāhmaṇas and sages present knew Lord Balarāma to be the Supreme Personality of Godhead, they did not hesitate to protest the Lord’s action. They humbly submitted, “Our dear Lord, we think that Your action is not in line with the religious principles.

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

In distress the sages cried out, not in anger but with politeness. O Lord of all beings (prabho)! You have committed adharma. But this is because you are the second member of Svayam Bhagavān’s caturvyūha, Saṅkarṣaṇa and worshipped by all (devam). The real meaning of their words is “You have done something beyond which there is no dharma (adharma). It is the highest dharma.”

They spoke to Saṅkarṣaṇa, the second member of the caturvyuha, directly the Lord, worshipped by the world (devam), or who was non-different from Kṛṣna, being his elder brother. O master (prabho)!
