श्रीशुक उवाच तत: पर्वण्युपावृत्ते प्रचण्ड: पांशुवर्षण: । भीमो वायुरभूद् राजन्पूयगन्धस्तु सर्वश: ॥ १ ॥

śrī-śuka uvāca tataḥ parvaṇy upāvṛtte pracaṇḍaḥ pāṁśu-varṣaṇaḥ bhīmo vāyur abhūd rājan pūya-gandhas tu sarvaśaḥ

Synonyms

śrī — śukaḥ uvāca — Śukadeva Gosvāmī said ; tataḥ — then ; parvaṇi — the new-moon day ; upāvṛtte — when it came ; pracaṇḍaḥ — fierce ; pāṁśu — dust ; varṣaṇaḥ — raining ; bhīmaḥ — frightening ; vāyuḥ — a wind ; abhūt — arose ; rājan — O King (Parīkṣit) ; pūya — of pus ; gandhaḥ — the smell ; tu — and ; sarvaśaḥ — all over .

Translation

Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Then, on the new-moon day, O King, a fierce and frightening wind arose, scattering dust all about and spreading the smell of pus everywhere.

Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Then, on the new-moon day, O King, a fierce and frightening wind arose, scattering dust all about and spreading the smell of pus everywhere. KB 10.79.1 Lord Balarāma prepared Himself to meet the demon Balvala. At the time when the demon usually attacked the sacred place, there appeared a great hailstorm, the whole sky became covered with dust, and the atmosphere became surcharged with a filthy smell.

In the seventy ninth chapter, Balarama kills Balvala, goes on pilgrimage and returns to see Bhima and Duryodhana fighting. He then returns to Dvaraka. When the dark moon arrived (upavrtte), there was a strong wind filled with dust and the odor of pus.

At that moment, a sharp (pracaṇḍaḥ), frightful (bhīmaḥ) wind smelling of pus arose. Śukadeva calls to Parīkṣit in amazement.
