तावात्मासनमारोप्य बाहुभ्यां परिरभ्य च । यशोदा च महाभागा सुतौ विजहतु: शुच: ॥ ३५ ॥

tāv ātmāsanam āropya bāhubhyāṁ parirabhya ca yaśodā ca mahā-bhāgā sutau vijahatuḥ śucaḥ

Synonyms

tau the two of Them ; ātma āsanam — onto their laps ; āropya raising ; bāhubhyām with their arms ; parirabhya embracing ; ca and ; yaśodā mother Yaśodā ; ca also ; mahā bhāgā — saintly ; sutau their sons ; vijahatuḥ they gave up ; śucaḥ their sorrow .

Translation

Raising their two sons onto their laps and holding Them in their arms, Nanda and saintly mother Yaśodā forgot their sorrow.

Raising their two sons onto their laps and holding Them in their arms, Nanda and saintly mother Yaśodā forgot their sorrow. KB 10.82.35 The most fortunate King Nanda and Mother Yaśodā placed their sons on their laps and began to embrace Them to their full satisfaction. Because of separation from Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma, King Nanda and Yaśodā had been merged in great distress for a very long time. Now, after meeting Them and embracing Them, all their sufferings were mitigated.

Purport

Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī explains that after the initial embraces and obeisances, Vasudeva led Nanda and Yaśodā into his tent as they held the hands of Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma. Following them inside were Rohiṇī, other women and men of Vraja, and a number of attendants. Inside, Nanda and Yaśodā took the two boys on their laps. Despite having heard the glories of the two Lords of Dvārakā, and despite seeing these opulences now before their eyes, Nanda and Yaśodā looked upon Them as if They were still their eight-year-old children.

Then Vasudeva made Nanda and Yasoda along with their companions, holding the hands of Krsna and Balarama enter a tent. Then what did they do? This verse answers. First Nanda and then Yasoda with an eager heart welcomed their sons. How was it possible for them to offer their own seats to their sons who now showed such opulences? Out of spontaneous parental love, they thought of Krsna and Balaramas as being eight years old offspring eternally (sutau), though they had heard about and seen their opulences and powers. When Krsna embraced by Nanda and Yasoda sat on their laps, he transformed into a cowherd boy completely. It was in this form he had while sitting that he also embraced the gopis. Thus it is described that they gave up their lamentation in separation (sucah).

Vasudeva, according to the rules for welcoming guests, and seeing that everyone might fall down because of being overcome with affection at that time, made them all sit. Then their parents immediately put the two boys on the seats in which the parents sat. Śukadeva indicates that the name Yaśodā was suitable since she gave (dā) such good fortune (yaśo) to Śukadeva because he could describe her prema at this time. She herself was most fortunate (mahā-bhāgāḥ). Ca indicates Nanda. He also, most fortunate, was there. She however is specifically named to indicate her extreme affection. “How could the two parents place Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma on their seats without fear since the two showed such evident powers and were fully grown up?” They always regarded Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma with affection as their sons (sutau). They could not give their sons up at all.
