एवं सौहृदशैथिल्यचित्त आनकदुन्दुभि: ।
रुरोद तत्कृतां मैत्रीं स्मरन्नश्रुविलोचन: ॥ ६५ ॥

ruroda tat-kṛtāṁ maitrīṁ
smarann aśru-vilocanaḥ

Translation
Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: His heart softened by feelings of intimate sympathy, Vasudeva wept. His eyes brimmed with tears as he remembered the friendship Nanda had shown him.

Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: His heart softened by feelings of intimate sympathy, Vasudeva wept. His eyes brimmed with tears as he remembered the friendship Nanda had shown him.

When Vasudeva was speaking to Nanda Mahārāja in this way, he was influenced by a great feeling for the friendship of Nanda Mahārāja and the beneficial activities executed by King Nanda on his behalf. As such, his eyes filled with tears, and he began to cry.

"Tu" indicates Nanda’s different intention. Vasudeva’s intention was different from Nanda’s. "Breaking your misconception that Krsna is your son, I will now take my son and go to Vraja." Because this was a very grave statement, he never said this, and remained silent. By doing so , he, who was affection to his friend Vasudeva, would be unaffectionate to Vasudeva. Every night he would think, "I will stay here today and depart with my son to Vraja tomorrow." But because of the exchange of prema between himself and Krsna and Balarama, he stayed three months.

Vasudeva’s heart became softened with friendship naturally. He then remembered all of the friendly acts of Nanda.

Saying this (evam) his heart softened. Or speaking in this way (evam) he remembered the friendship and his heatt melted with prema (sauhṛda). Thus his eyes, which were wide (vi), filled with tears and he wept. The prefix vi also indicates excessive tears. Or though naturally having a heart melted with prema, on remembering the friendship of Nanda, his eyes filled with tears. At Vasudeva’s birth the devatās sounded drums. Being such a great person, it was suitable that he act in this way with Nanda.
