Translation
Obeisances to You, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Kṛṣṇa, whose intelligence is ever unrestricted. Obeisances to the sage Nara-Nārāyaṇa, who always undergoes austerities in perfect peace.

“My dear Lord, You are the ocean of unlimited mercy, love and affection. Your transcendental form is full of bliss, knowledge and eternity. You can attract everyone’s heart by Your beautiful form as Śyāmasundara, Kṛṣṇa. Your knowledge is unlimited, and to teach all people how to execute devotional service You have sent Your incarnation Nara-Nārāyaṇa, who is engaged in severe austerities and penances at Badarīnārāyaṇa. Kindly, therefore, accept my humble obeisances at Your lotus feet.

Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī comments that the King offered these prayers to encourage Lord Kṛṣṇa to remain at his home for some days. The King thought, “Since contact with the Supreme Lord can free anyone from misconceptions and doubts, Kṛṣṇa’s presence in my home will fortify my intelligence so that I can withstand the onslaughts of material desires. In His expansion as Nara-Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi, the Lord always resides in Badarikāśrama for the good of the whole land of Bharata, and so He may also create good fortune for the land of Mithilā by remaining here for at least a few days. Since Lord Kṛṣṇa’s propensity is toward peace and simplicity, He will certainly prefer my simple home to the excessive opulence of Dvārakā.”

He praises the lord in order to make him stay at his house for some days.
"I pay my respects to Krsna, who has sharp intelligence (akuntha medhase). By your staying in my house, may I also develop such sharp intelligence which cannot be pierced by the arrows of material enjoyment. I offer my respects to Narayana Rsi. Just as you reside in Badarika asrama for the good fortune of the land of Bharata, you should reside in my house for some days for the good fortune of Mithila. I offer my respects to you who practice peaceful austerity (susantam tapah issue). Staying in my house which is devoid of the enjoyments of Dvaraka, you will perform austerity."

Before making his request, he offers respects. I offer respects to you, possessing unrestricted knowledge. What knowledge can others give you? Moreover, in order to benefit all people even today you remain in Badarikāśrama performing austerities in one of your forms: I offer respects to Nārāyaṇa. Therefore you can also give benefit to us. Or, I offer respects to the shelter of all jīvas (nārāyaṇāya), because you are the revealer of the Vedas (ṛṣaye). Therefore you are full of intense happiness which does not change (śāntāya—another version). I offer respects to you who perform kṣatriya dharma to teach the people. The version suśānta-tapa means “performing austerities of kṣatriya dharma to benefit the people.”

He first offers respects in order to make a request. I offer respects to you, who have unrestricted knowledge (akuṇṭha-medhase). How can others make you known? Moreover you undergo austerities in Badarikāśrama in one of your forms, to benefit the whole world (nārāyaṇāya). You wear the dress of a renunciate with matted locks (ṛṣaye). Your heart is not affected by desires (śāntāya instead of suśāntam) since you are fixed in brahmacārya. This is explained in the Eleventh Canto. Therefore you should give benefit to us.
Or you are the shelter of all jīvas (nārāyanāya) because you are the seer of the Vedas (ṛṣaye). Therefore you are without change or full of happiness (śaṇtāya). You perform activities as a kṣatriya householder (tapa) to teach the people.
