Translation (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)

[Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued:] Thus invited by the King, the Supreme Lord, sustainer of the world, consented to stay for some time to bestow good fortune on the men and women of Mithilā. KB 10.86.37 Lord Kṛṣṇa could not refuse the request of His devotee, and thus He remained there for a few days with the sages to sanctify the city of Mithilā and all its citizens.

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

Requested with insistence (upa—manitritaḥ), he stayed.

Purport (Sanatana Goswami)

Requested with skill (upa-mantritaḥ) the Lord stayed there because he was the protector of all jīvas (loka-bhāvanaḥ) and revealer of unlimited qualities like affection for his devotees (bhagavān). He bestowed great happiness or pure bhakti (kalyāṇam) on the men and women of Mithilā, who were generally ignorant, having them give up aspirations for mokṣa.
