Translation
In this connection I will relate to you a narration concerning the Supreme Lord Nārāyaṇa. It is about a conversation that once occurred between Śrī Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi and Nārada Muni.

Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued to speak to Parīkṣit Mahārāja. “My dear King,” he said, “in this regard I shall narrate a nice story. This story is important because it is in connection with Nārāyaṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This narration is a conversation between Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi and the great sage Nārada.” Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi still resides in Badarīkāśrama and is accepted as an incarnation of Nārāyaṇa. Badarīkāśrama is situated in the northernmost part of the Himalaya Mountains and is always covered with snow. Religious Indians still go to visit this place during the summer season, when the snowfall is not very severe.

Lord Nārāyaṇa is connected in two ways with the following narration: as its speaker and as the subject it describes.

To reinforce the faith in what was said, he relates the history. "Concerning this subject (atra), I will tell a history (gatham) in the form of a dialogue which showing Narayana as supreme."

In this connection I will relate a story which happened long ago. The story concerns Nārāyaṇa, the shelter of the three puruṣas who create mahat-tattva and the shelter of all jīvas. This refers to Svayam Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa, the real Nārāyaṇa, as expressed by Brahmā in SB 10.14.14. Thus this story is consistent with a beginning and conclusion concerning (anvitam) Kṛṣṇa. Since Nārada, a great devotee was involved, this story glorified the Lord and was conclusive. He is described in the next vears as “dear to the Lord.” This story is in the form of a conversation between Nārada and the sage Nārāyaṇa. This excludes Nārāyaṇa of the spiritual world and Nārāyaṇa residing in the Milk Ocean.

I will describe the śrutis dedicated to Brahman and later those beyond Brahman. Story began from a conversation of questions and answers between Nārada and Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi--who was not residing on the Milk Ocean and was not the Lord of Vaikuṇṭha. The two words ca indicate that the conversation was primiarly between the two of them. Or I will relate that conversation in which the Lord Nārāyaṇa, praised by the śrutis, was understood (anvitām) by being described.
