स्वपौरुषे प्रतिहते हतमानो
महासुर: ।
नैच्छद्गदां दीयमानां हरिणा विगतप्रभ: ॥ १२ ॥

hata-māno mahāsuraḥ
naicchad gadāṁ dīyamānāṁ
hariṇā vigata-prabhaḥ

Translation
His valor thus frustrated, the great demon felt humiliated and was put out of countenance. He was reluctant to take back the mace when it was offered by the Personality of Godhead.

His prowess thwarted, his pride deflated, the great demon did not desire to receive that club offered back to him by the Lord.
